I wonder if you knew that visitors to your website form an instant opinion? And they form it about you and your offer. This instant opinion is created subconsciously. It happens automatically within the visitors mind. It happens automatically. Your site visitors can't help themselves. It matters not a jot how clever the text is on your page. You can have paid an expensive professional to produce your copy for you. The visitor need not read a single word, and yet they will form their instant opinion.

The quality of the images on your web page won't make any difference. Their quality doesn't affect in this instant opinion. You might think if you make an unrepeatable offer, that your visitor is bound to be swayed by that! I'm sorry, the instant opinion clicks in, and your brilliant offer lies unseen. This is because the instant opinion is made when your web page is displayed to your visitor. You may have guessed there is something subliminal at work here. In a way, that is right. Immediate opinions are formed by visitors to every single website. You may have already worked out that the answer is colors. When your web page appears to your visitor, the colors you've used go to work on the subconscious of your visitors.

The reason this happens is because we all react psychological and intuitively to colors. There isn't anything we can do about this. Colors has an affect on each of us. This is one of the reasons why companies can invest millions in getting the colors exactly right for their products and marketing promotions. They invest this money as they know how the psychology of color works. In their business propositions, the big companies understand that the use of appropriate colors is a key element. And so it is in web design. The colors of your web pages also convey feelings and emotions to the subconscious mind of your visitors.

By the psychological power you could encourage your website visitors to leave your page the instant they see it. This can happen even if the copy on your website is compelling. The chances are that visitors who are put off by your colors are unlikely to read your copy anyway. But all is not lost. In the same way that colors can be a turn off, it is possible to create a positive feeling through the use of colors. This isn't a new discovery. The psychological power of colors is well known in the offline marketing world. It's been around with us for decades. It doesn't make any difference whether you know about color power, your subconscious mind is affected.

What we need to do in our website design is to ensure the color combination on our web pages convey a positive feelings. Your choice with your color selections is to send a sense belonging, trust and warmth. Conversely, the feeling sent may be one of distrust, coolness and rejection. Here is a list of colors showing the types of feelings each will evoke:

Goodness, easy, simplicity, cleanliness, purity, fresh, innocence etc

Finally, be aware that your website color scheme should reflect the product or offering you make. What happens is that the subconscious mind of your visitor will attempt to reconcile the colors with the message. If it can't, it will lose interest. And you will lose your visitor. You should spend time in determining what are the right colors for your web pages. Try and make sure your colors and message are in harmony. If you can achieve this, you will produce better results from your website. In summary, the difference between the right and wrong color scheme on your website can be the difference between profit and loss.

12 Design Tips for Building a Small Business Website

Designing a Website can be hard work, what skills do you need? can you do it yourself? should you do it yourself? When should you start to think about a website? After your company is up and running or is your business based on the web.

These are just a few questions you may be asking yourself and probably ones you should try get the answers to, by getting help from mentors or a web design company you should be able to come to the right answers.

Ive put a list together of things you should take in to consideration when planning, designing and building your website, the main aim being delivering content that visitors like but also being good to get ranked on search engine.

1. Design a logo, make sure you have a good logo. This is your brand and what you want people to remember you for. This will generally be at the top of your site, so its the first thing people see. A logo/brand can say a lot about you so this is important.

2. Text on each page needs to be relevant, a minimum of 250 words, having keywords about your product or service is good to have in there. Possibly look at having copy written by a professional that knows how to write for the web.

3. Images are important also, good quality shots of a product can say a thousand words, bad pictures can bring down the look of the site. But make sure you don't overload on pictures.

4. Each page should have its own page title, meta descriptions and meta keywords, a very important part in building your website.

5. Try use CSS (cascading style sheets), this works better for search engines and will also make for easier changes on the website, ie colour, font or font size.

6. H1-H6 tags should be used to highlight the main title on the page of where your text is, this usually relates to the page title, H2 tags would possibly follow as the titles of the following paragraphs. Bold text should be used to highlight keywords within the paragraphs also, but don't overdo this.

7. If you can use text navigation as this allows search engines to index your website better.

8. Make sure it's easy for an end user to buy your product or find the service, If its not easy to find what chance have you got to promote it. This all goes towards the conversion and bringing in the sales.

9. Links from your pages to other internal pages is also good, promote other products or services, making it easier for a user to find other things on your site. Again don't overdo this too much.

10. Build a site map, this makes it easier for search engines to index, you can upload an XML site map to Google webmaster tools which is beneficial in indexing all pages on your site.

11. If you are gathering any info from the website, ie through a form you should have a Privacy Policy.

12. Finally install Google Analytics, this is very important as the data that if gives your back about your visitors and where they come from is invaluable.

This is only a few points to think about, but it should give you a start when you are thinking about the design and build of your site. I would recommend that you consult with a web design company as they should be able to design and build a site exactly to your requirements and generally more professional in hitting the mark of your target audience.

Does your Website need a Redesign?

You may have a beautiful website, it may win awards for excellence in design, but unless the designer has taken into account the principles of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), you may need to consider a redesign. You may have an old website, it does its job, it tells people about your company, but it's slow and the content, it's a bit out of date. In both cases, you definitely need to consider a redesign.

Both websites will struggle to get the volume of traffic that they could receive. The new well-designed site may get traffic for those looking specifically for that site, but anyone using a keyword search for your product or services won't find you.

The older site with out of date content loses out because the Search Engines think (due to the lack of fresh content) that the site is dormant or dead. Both of these websites could receive great traffic and a potentially lucrative increase in business, but without consideration of SEO, they won't get any share of that possible income.

So what should one look for in a site that might need a redesign?

All Flash

Although there have been significant advances in Search Engine technology and they are beginning to read some flash, a site that's all flash is likely to be dreadful for Search Engines. They will be pretty, but the Search Engines won't rank them highly because the content is essentially unreadable. But what about major corporations that rank highly but have flash-only sites? These sites have such a high rate of linkage that their flash content probably doesn't matter, unless you can compete with a major corporation, an all flash sites is a no go.

Frames

Frames in your website make it difficult for search engines to index its pages. What's more, human visitors really struggle with frames, they're difficult to read and it's hard to get an impression of the site. Some browsers don't even support frames, meaning your site is entirely unreadable for those potential customers.

Splash Pages

Web designers using splash pages really make a visual impact on the visitor. Imagine the entire webpage as an animated page, straight out of a cartoon. Very impressive. Unfortunately, from an SEO point of view, they're horrible. Splash pages generally contain little or no text content; have no links and full of flash and other software which the Search Engines still find difficult to assess for a ranking. You may impress with your Splash Pages, but kiss goodbye to many potential customers.

Slow Loading

Very simply, a slow loading page puts off both human visitors and search engine crawlers. Human visitors may not have the patience to wait for the pages to load and search engines almost always rank the faster loading pages above the slower ones. If your site has slow loading pages, they need replacing.

Out of Date Content

First, the Search Engines will simply ignore this site as if it no longer exists. It may have been ok in the past to leave your content for months without updating it, but these days, it will soon slip off the radar without regularly updated content. What's more, nothing puts off a human visitor more than out of date content.

If your site contains any of the above SEO problems, you need to implement a redesign; it's costing you potential income.

Repair/Reinstall Windows Components

Often part of Windows start messing up and not working, this is often because the files belonging to that component are missing or corrupt. The good news is that often these components can be reinstalled with out reinstalling XP. It is best that you run Tweak #6 first but it some times dose to repair some components of Windows XP

The way to do this is first put in you Windows XP CD then go to the folder C:\Windows\inf and right click the .inf file that belongs to that component of Windows that you what to reinstall and press install. I have started to put together a list of what each .inf file belongs to, if you know what one .inf that I have not listed belongs to please PM me.

One .inf file of importance that dose not install any thing is sysoc.inf It controls what you see in “Add/Remove Windows Components.” If you open it you will so that most lines end with ,,7 (or some other number) and ,hide,7 (or some other number) adding hide hides it, removing the hide shows it. This can be useful for administrators that what to stop components being installed or removed.

There are 700 .inf files in C:\Windows\inf so that is a very small part of them, I am trying to get a full list.

Remove Unwanted Context menu items

When you right click a folder do you notice that programs have added them selves to the the little pop up menu. You can remove these program entries, by editing the registry. It is best to have a full back up of the registry just in case some thing goes wrong. To backup registry right click a folder(key) and press export and save it where you could find it if needed. In this case you only have to back up..

And delete the folders(keys) to the programs who’s entries you want removed be carefull that you delete the right one. Reboot and they will be gone.

Remember editing the registry can cause problems, if you do the wrong thing. Do not do this unless you feel safe editing the registry

HTML vs. XHTML

XHTML 1.0 is a reformulation of HTML 4.0. What this really means is that learning XHTML is basically the same as learning HTML. The main difference is a few simple rules - as XHTML is more strict than standard HTML.

1. Stricter adherence to the HTML specification

Many browsers are very lax in how they interpret HTML. This leads to incongruities in how the pages are displayed, and XHTML doesn't allow that. The best way to correct this is to use an XHTML validator such as HTML Tidy.

2. Write well formed documents

What this generally means is avoiding overlapping elements. The following nested code is acceptable: p Paragraph em. emphasized ./em ./p because the tag is opened and closed within the p tag. However, this is not allowed: because the em tag overlaps the p tag.

3. Write tags and attributes in lowercase

XHTML is a case-sensitive markup language, so LI and li are potentially two different elements.

4. End tags are required

In HTML, some tags which actually contain elements do not require the end tag.

The most common of these is the p tag. XHTML requires that the /p tag be used. For singleton tags, such as br you should include a trailing slash in the tag itself, e.g. br /

5. Attributes must be quoted and include values

What this means is that non-quoted attributes such as are invalid. And attributes which used to stand alone, must now be written as name="value" pairs. For example: br noshade="noshade"

Shooter Bindra wins India's first solo gold

BEIJING (Reuters) - Abhinav Bindra won India's first individual Olympic gold medal on Monday with a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the men's 10m air rifle.
Bindra had been fourth after qualifying but had a brilliant final round and the Indian, the epitome of tranquillity, hit a near perfect 10.8 on his last shot to pull in front of Henri Hakkinen of Finland, who fell to bronze with a poor final shot.
That late stumble by the Finn allowed China's Zhu Qinan, the defending Olympic champion and heavy favourite, to salvage a bitter day with silver. Zhu sobbed uncontrollably on the podium and again at a news conference.
"I can't describe how happy I am," the ever-calm Bindra told journalists. "It's the thrill of my life. That's about it. It's hard to describe. I just went for it. I knew I was lying in fourth. Thankfully it went my way and I just went for it."
Zhu suffered a lapse in concentration in the qualification earlier when he had to rush his final shots to make the time limit, dropping to second behind Hakkinen ahead of the final.
"I was under tremendous pressure and at times I felt really agitated," Zhu said just before stepping on the podium and breaking down in tears. "But I tried my best."
Moments later at the news conference Zhu was crying harder.
"I've been through a lot of hardship and shed a lot of tears in the last four years, there have been successes and failures," he said. "After 2004 my only aim has not changed. I had so very much wanted to be a champion at the Beijing Olympics."
He added: "In the last two rounds I made several mistakes because I had used up all my physical and mental energy."
Bindra, who faced criticism for failing to deliver on the great promise he showed as a child, said he was not thinking about making history in India with a first individual gold medal. In fact, he said, he was "not thinking about anything".
"I was just trying to concentrate on shooting," he said. "I wasn't thinking of making history. I was two points behind the leaders. I was just trying to shoot good shots. I wanted to shoot well and shoot aggressively. And that's what I did."
His 10.8 of a possible 10.9 on his final shot sparked loud celebrations from group of fans from India.
Hakkinen, who was even with Bindra before his mere 9.7 on his last shot, said that crucial shot felt like the nine before it.
"It just wasn't my turn," he said. "It shows that shooting is a sport from the first to the final shot. Every one counts."
Randhir Singh, Indian Olympic Association secretary-general and former shooter who was present at the range, was stricken by nerves as the competition reached its climax.
"I haven't prayed so much in my life. With the second last shot they tied together and then he (Bindra) shot a 10.8. It couldn't have got better," he told Indian television.
Bindra won the 2006 world championships and finished seventh in Athens four years ago.

How to Install EasyPHP ( PHP, MySql, Apache & PhpMyAdmin)

Every day there are hundreds of website owners who have purchased a domain name only to forget about it and then let it expire. For those investors who are well informed about such names they can snap these up and therefore capture a huge amount of existing traffic even though the site is considered to be brand new. This has resulted in a large number of owners of websites losing out and those who investing in such domain names to become richer.
All websites only survive if they have regular amounts of traffic being directed towards their site each day. The Secrets to Making Money With Someone Else's Domain Name

Abstract
This short article discusses two ways in which smart operators are making money from the domain names of others. Neither method is, in my opinion, unethical and can lead to a sound income stream.

Introduction

Do you know what the one thing is that online businesses need, a topic that seems to occupy more space in ebooks, conferences,blogs and fora than any other topic?

If you said, "getting traffic", you are spot on. Traffic is obtained through a variety of ways including search engine optimization, linking, advertising, running competitions, blogging etc. But, as noted Internet marketer Ken Evoy reminds us, it's not simply traffic we need, it's targeted traffic. That is, traffic looking for our products or services.

This article discusses two ways in which you can leverage targeted traffic from other peoples' domain names.

Method One

Say for example you have an online mortgage brokerage operation. You are looking for a constant stream of people comparing mortgage fees and charges who might sign up with you and earn you your commission. However, your firm is small and most of your traffic comes from advertising, which is expensive, and referrals from existing customers. You know that there are numbers of large financial institutes in your region who provide mortgages and you'd like to tap in on some of their prospects.

Here's what you do for method one. Use a domain name identical with the domain they have, but change the suffix. For example, if the firm's URL is amazingbank DOT com, buy a domain called amazingbank DOT ws or with some other suffix that is legally acceptable to your country of registration. You will need to make sure the name is not a Trademark Registered Name which it is illegal for you to use and your domain name registration authority should advise you how to do that in your country.

Next, set up a redirect page on your site. This is a page in a sub-directory called index.html which, when loaded into a browser, redirects users to the home page (also called index.html) of your main business site. And guess what? Because your domain name is almost identical with the financial institution that gets all the traffic, you will get a good place in the search engines.

Numbers of people who do a search will click on your link that will highlight the word mortgages. Others will type the incorrect domain name leading to your domain, the redirection page and eventually your home page.

What will they see? A whole lot of information about your mortgages ... just what they were looking for.

Before you do this, it will be a good idea to check out the Google Page Rank of some of the sites in which you are interested. Do that by installing Google Toolbar (free from Google) and then visiting the site. Google Toolbar shows the Google Page Rank in the toolbar. The page rank refers to popularity. Obviously the more popular the site is, the better it will be for you to mimic.

Method Two

A variation on method one is this method that relies on people making typing mistakes. Instead of typing CNN DOT Com to visit the well known media site, a small percentage of people will type CNM DOT com. You provide a domain called CNM DOT Com and pick up some of the mistake makers. However, you do need to provide a product the same as the site you choose to imitate or else people won't stay long.

So, find a major player who sells the same or similar products or services to you and register a domain name similar to theirs.

Before you do that, visit Overture or use some other method eg, the free software program Good Keywords, to find out how many searches each month are made for the original site and the misspelled derivations. Choose a domain name that reflects the one people are mistakenly entering and every time they enter it they will get your site or any site to which you redirect them. It could even be an affiliate site or someone else's sales page.

Summary

Using either of these methods will increase your targeted traffic and because the traffic is targeted, many of your visitors will buy your goods or services. If you were starting from scratch and wanted to know what type of business to go into, you could research some existing, successful businesses and check out the common spelling mistakes people make. If there were numbers of common mistakes, you could create as many domain names (these are generally very cheap) and redirect all of them to your home page with just the right products or services people were looking for.

What is a domain name?
Millions of domain names have already been registered and finding the 'perfect' domain name will be tricky. Unless you have a deep pocket and bother to buy a very very brandable domain name, you'll have a hard time getting the best domain.

Here a a few things you need to consider when picking a domain name.

Branding and SEO

In business, branding is the representation of what a company or organization stands for. It is also the same for a websites.

Choose a domain that is well brandable - It should be conveniently easy to associate it with any product or service you are offering. For a blog, it should be very easy to connect your domain name and your content.

Your domain should be short and memorable - A very long domain may cause your readers to forget and the chances of word-of-mouth marketing gets lower. The easier people remember your site, the better.

Go with a .com domain name - People always assume that a website always has a .com extension. You probably know why I have the .org extension. (hint: the .net and .com versions have already been registered)

Like many of you, I am always trying to find as much information as I can on Search Engine Optimization. And also like many of you, I am doing it myself. I read online and buy books on search engine optimization and many of them all say the same things, just in a different way.

Sadly with most search engines the solution is simply the number of links pointing back to your site. The search engines feel that they can control the quality of their search results by focusing on the websites that have a large number of links pointing to them. Simply put, it's a popularity vote. Their reasoning is that if nobody else thinks your site is important, why should they index it.

That doesn't mean you can't get your site indexed though. In 2005 Google created a submission system called Google sitemaps. Yahoo soon followed with one of their own as well.

Aside from taking advantage of this tool to insure your site indexing, Google sitemaps also provide a variety of statistics related to your site. You can see what the search engines see in regards to pages that they can't find, your page rank and even search statistics.

"That's really great Ben, but my site is HUGE and I don't know anything about xml and how to format these things". Well I had the same problem, I have sitemaps with over 6000 links in them, and frankly I was not about to try and manually create a sitemap with all of those links, I just don't have the time. So I went ahead and created a smaller sitemap of all of my sites with a dozen or less elements included so that I would at least get something indexed.

That was until I stumbled over a sitemap generator that did all of the work for me. There are others out there but this one has a web page that you can go to and have them generate your sitemap, as well as a desktop version. It's called the ROR Sitemap Generator. And all you have to do is key in your domain name and let it do the rest.

There is also another great tool which also handles the Yahoo sitemap and that program is GSiteCrawler.

Save the sitemap to your directory, and viola! I used the desktop version personally because I've found that it performs quicker and doesn't hang up on sites with thousands of links. They also have the "ROR Feed Generator" which I've used with equal success.

Oh Yeah, and the best part, these tools are free. You can find them at www.rorweb.com and www.gsitecrawler.com. You will be able to let this tool create your sitemap, save the generated map as sitemap.xml, upload it to your website root directory, then log into your Google Sitemap account and enter the path to your sitemap and let google do the rest.

I recently did this for a friend and his site was indexed in 3 days. That's uncommon, it might take up to 30 days, but you'll get your pages indexed on google, and many of the other search engines will be able to index your site now too. Is it guaranteed? No. But I've had 100% success getting my pages and sites indexed personally.

Just in case you need help with Google Sitemaps, here's how you want to do the complete process.

1. Set up your account with Google Sitemaps at www.google.com/webmaster/sitemaps
2. Generate your sitemap.
3. Place your sitemap in your root directory of your website.
4. Log into your Google account.
5. Click the "Add" tab to add a new sitemap with your account.
6. Select the "General Website Sitemap" option.
7. Click Next.

If you link to someone that has a page rank of zero, this will not hurt your page rank. It will only increase it because you are getting a link back to your website. Google doesn't look at your back links page ranks to determine what yours is going to be. It simply looks at how many back links you have.

Traffic is obtained through a variety of ways including search engine optimization, linking, advertising, running competitions, blogging etc. But, as noted Internet marketer Ken Evoy reminds us, it's not simply traffic we need, it's targeted traffic. That is, traffic looking for our products or services.

This article discusses two ways in which you can leverage targeted traffic from other peoples' domain names.

Method One

Say for example you have an online mortgage brokerage operation. You are looking for a constant stream of people comparing mortgage fees and charges who might sign up with you and earn you your commission. However, your firm is small and most of your traffic comes from advertising, which is expensive, and referrals from existing customers. You know that there are numbers of large financial institutes in your region who provide mortgages and you'd like to tap in on some of their prospects.

Here's what you do for method one. Use a domain name identical with the domain they have, but change the suffix. For example, if the firm's URL is amazingbank DOT com, buy a domain called amazingbank DOT ws or with some other suffix that is legally acceptable to your country of registration. You will need to make sure the name is not a Trademark Registered Name which it is illegal for you to use and your domain name registration authority should advise you how to do that in your country.

Next, set up a redirect page on your site. Numbers of people who do a search will click on your link that will highlight the word mortgages. Others will type the incorrect domain name leading to your domain, the redirection page and eventually your home page.

What will they see? A whole lot of information about your mortgages ... just what they were looking for.

Before you do this, it will be a good idea to check out the Google Page Rank of some of the sites in which you are interested. Do that by installing Google Toolbar (free from Google) and then visiting the site. Google Toolbar shows the Google Page Rank in the toolbar. The page rank refers to popularity. Obviously the more popular the site is, the better it will be for you to mimic.

Method Two

A variation on method one is this method that relies on people making typing mistakes. Instead of typing CNN DOT Com to visit the well known media site, a small percentage of people will type CNM DOT com. You provide a domain called CNM DOT Com and pick up some of the mistake makers. However, you do need to provide a product the same as the site you choose to imitate or else people won't stay long.

So, find a major player who sells the same or similar products or services to you and register a domain name similar to theirs.

Before you do that, visit Overture or use some other method eg, the free software program Good Keywords, to find out how many searches each month are made for the original site and the misspelled derivations. Choose a domain name that reflects the one people are mistakenly entering and every time they enter it they will get your site or any site to which you redirect them. It could even be an affiliate site or someone else's sales page.

Using either of these methods will increase your targeted traffic and because the traffic is targeted, many of your visitors will buy your goods or services. There are six system font keywords in CSS2:

Status bar. This keyword defines the font styles which are used for the text in window status bars.
Menu. This keyword is used to set the font style for the drop-down menus and the actual menu list fonts.
Icon. The fonts used for the labels of the operating system's icons (the ones used for the files and folders for example) are set using this keyword.
Caption. The caption command in CSS defines the fonts used for the controls (buttons and drop-downs).
Message-box. This is used to define the fonts used for dialog boxes.
Small-caption. This keyword defines the font styles used for labeling small captioned notes.

These values can be used only together with the font property. They are also their own form of shorthand. Lets take as an example a computer where the operating system show the icon labels as 10 pixels Geneva, without any other effects such as bolding, italics or small caps.

Because CSS is pretty unique in this resort and working with these settings is a bit more difficult than usual because a simple value as font can hold a whole array of other values.

One may want to use the font style as icon labels. But not also that, but the programmer may want for he font to appear bold, even if the icon labels are not set to bold on the user's computer.

By writing the code as:

body {font: icon; font-weight: bold;}

The user agent sets the body element's font to be exactly like the icon labels with the first declaration. After that, the weight of that font is modified with the second. The bolding would be lost if the order of those operations were reversed, the font's declaration value would override the fonts value from the second command.

A particularity of CSS is that it won't let the programmer fix a generic font family. Usually the recommendation is for the author to write something similar to this next code line Geneva, sans-serif; if the browser found on the client's computer does not support the font selected.

In this case it is not required anymore. If the same font used to display anything on the computer will be extracted by the user agent, it will be available for the client's browser.

There can be cases when that particular font is not at all available or the user agent cannot determine it in any way. In these situations, the user agent can take a guess at using the most appropriate set of fonts. If the caption font is determined, the font used for small-caption will be the same as the first one, while reducing its size. And in the situations the font cannot be determined by any means, it is up to the user agent to use its default font.

CSS 2 aids the programmer if he desires to reuse the colors which are already specified in the user's operating system. It does this by defining a series of system color keywords. Wherever a value is allowed, any of these values can be used. Despite the fact that there are in total 28 color keywords, CSS does not define them individually. Generic (and thus very short) descriptions of each keyword are used instead. There are cases when there is a direct analog with the options present in the "Appearance" tab in Windows and these cases will be noted accordingly.

These keywords are:

ActiveCaption. This setting controls the color of the caption of the current active window (this is also the first color in the "Active Title Bar").
ActiveBorder. This way the color applied to the outside border of the active window is set (this is also the first color option in "Active Windows Border").
AppWorkspace. This keyword controls the background color used in software that support multiple documents; this is the case with the color found behind the open documents in Microsoft Word (this is the first color from the "Application Background" setting).
ButtonText. The ButtonText defines the color which can be attributed to push buttons (it is the font color option in "3D Objects" setting).
ButtonShadow. This attribute allows for setting the color for three dimensional elements.
ButtonHighlight. When three dimensional display elements are displayed, this keyword defines the highlight color on the edges of the specific element that is faced opposing the virtual light source. For example this will be the color of the right and bottom edges of the three dimensional element if the virtual light sources comes from the upper left part.

So, what is CSS? It can control the design of your entire web site. Yeah, it can. If you know how to use it. And you should! Because it's so much easier to change the color of your background one single time, instead of one time for every page in your web site.

Since this is only a quick introduction to CSS I will only explain the basics of how to set the properties of different tags, styles and so on.

It's important to know the prefixes of the different things you can control in a sheet.

With standard HTML tags like html, body, p, h1 etc. you just type the name of the tag as shown in the image below. Styles you have created yourself always start with a dot( . ). And finally, id or names of div tags etc start with a #.

After the name of the tag or style is where you set the properties. Like font size, color and so on. But remember! These properties have to be placed inside two curly braces. First an opening curly brace, then a closing one.

To set a property, find the name of the property you want to set (ex: font style). Then type "font-family" on a new line as shown below and follow with a colon ( : ). Then set the font you want to use. Ex: "Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif". Then follow with a semicolon ( ; ). If you want to add a new property, just repeat the process on a new line.

So how do you use it? Create a new html file in Dreamweaver 8 (CTRL+N). In the "Properties" tab, in the "Style" drop down menu, select "Attach Style Sheet". Then find your css file and select "Add as: Link" and then "Ok".

Write a few words in your html document and highlight them. In the "Properties" tab, in the "Style" drop down menu, select the style you just created.

Create a new HTML file in Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 (Ctrl+N).

Then create a new CSS file by following the same steps as above, just make sure you select "CSS" instead of "HTML". Then save the two newly created files in the same folder. For example "my website". Save the HTML file as index.html and the CSS file as css.css.

The first thing we want to do, is to set the padding and the margins on the index site to 0. This is done using the CSS file we just created. Open your CSS file.

On line 3, type the same as I've done.

Now, go back to your html page and import your stylesheet.

Then switch to code view.

Inside the body tags, write this:
This will be the main container of the page.
Then, inside the newly created div tag, create another one. Like this:

Then, underneath the header div, still inside the main-wrap, write three more divs.
You should also fill the div tags with some placeholder text like this:

If you return to the design view, you will see four of your div tags. This is because you filled them with text. Empty div tags will be 0px in height if you don't set the height using CSS.

It doesn't really look like a web site yet. But after some work in the CSS sheet we will get closer to a full site.

You could post the interview on your site as website content. Or you could have the streaming audio or video up and even let your members download the interviews. Let them post reviews and comments to the interviews and you've got even more content.

Forums - Forums are a type of virtual community and provide the opportunity for people with similar interests to talk to each other. Your members will already have a shared interest in your niche subject, so creating active discussion forums won't be too challenging.

Here's a tip, have good forum monitors and admin in place to keep things smooth. Having multiple monitors can help you get your new forum started as well as keep discussions ongoing. You could keep your forums open to everyone. That will be better for search engine traffic but it can also attract spammers and forum hackers. Having a private forum for your members only can keep things more secure and full of like minded individuals.

Competitions - Encourage your members to post on your forum or blog by running a competition. Award a prize each month to someone who has made the best post on your forum, and each individual posting would be an additional entry into the prize draw. Or maybe give a prize to the member who writes the most reviews or posts the most comments each month to your site.

Involving your members in polls and surveys

Member polls - Asking your members to answer a simple question relating to your niche subject is a simple and effective way to get them involved in the site. Have a regular monthly poll and publish the results of the previous month's poll above the question for the current month.

Surveys - Some niche subjects lend themselves well to surveys. If yours does not you could conduct a survey about your membership site itself. This gives your members the chance to express their views and let you know what changes they would like to see.

Getting feedback can also let you know where to take your membership site. By allowing your members to tell you what they want you can just simply give it to them. We've taken surveys ourselves over the years and they can be very insiteful. The poll or survey data you generate can be gold to your customer feedback system for the future of your business.

Newsletters - Newsletters may be used to highlight forum posts, questions that people have asked, blog posts and even case studies, survey results, success stories and more. Get your community involved in the content both online and in your newsletter. They'll be invested in the results. We'll get more in depth about newsletters in another article.

In Simple way we can say that cyber crime is unlawful acts wherein the computer is either a tool or a target or both

Cyber crimes can involve criminal activities that are traditional in nature, such as theft, fraud, forgery, defamation and mischief, all of which are subject to the Indian Penal Code.
The abuse of computers has also given birth to a gamut of new age crimes that are addressed by the Information Technology Act, 2000.

We can categorize Cyber crimes in two ways

The Computer as a Target :-using a computer to attack other computers.

e.g. Hacking,Virus/Worm attacks,DOS attack etc.

The computer as a weapon :-using a computer to commit real world crimes.

e.g. Cyber Terrorism, IPR violations,Credit card frauds,EFT frauds, Pornography etc.

Technical Aspects

Technological advancements have created new possibilities for criminal activity, in particular the criminal misuse of information technologies such as

a. Unauthorized access & Hacking:-

Access means gaining entry into, instructing or communicating with the logical, arithmetical, or memory function resources of a computer, computer system or computer network.

Unauthorized access would therefore mean any kind of access without the permission of either the rightful owner or the person in charge of a computer, computer system or computer network.

Every act committed towards breaking into a computer and/or network is hacking. Hackers write or use ready-made computer programs to attack the target computer. They possess the desire to destruct and they get the kick out of such destruction. Some hackers hack for personal monetary gains, such as to stealing the credit card information, transferring money from various bank accounts to their own account followed by withdrawal of money.

By hacking web server taking control on another persons website called as web hijacking

b. Trojan Attack:-

The program that act like something useful but do the things that are quiet damping. The programs of this kind are called as Trojans.

The name Trojan Horse is popular.

Trojans come in two parts, a Client part and a Server part. When the victim (unknowingly) runs the server on its machine, the attacker will then use the Client to connect to the Server and start using the trojan.

TCP/IP protocol is the usual protocol type used for communications, but some functions of the trojans use the UDP protocol as well.

c. Virus and Worm attack:-

A program that has capability to infect other programs and make copies of itself and spread into other programs is called virus.

Programs that multiply like viruses but spread from computer to computer are called as worms.

d. E-mail & IRC related crimes:-

1. Email spoofing

Email spoofing refers to email that appears to have been originated from one source when it was actually sent from another source.

2. Email Spamming

Email "spamming" refers to sending email to thousands and thousands of users - similar to a chain letter.

3 Sending malicious codes through email

E-mails are used to send viruses,Trojans etc through emails as an attachment or by sending a link of website which on visiting downloads malicious code.

4. Email bombing

E-mail "bombing" is characterized by abusers repeatedly sending an identical email message to a particular address.

5. Sending threatening emails

6. Defamatory emails

7. Email frauds

8. IRC related

Three main ways to attack IRC are: "verbal“ attacks, clone attacks, and flood attacks.

e. Denial of Service attacks:-

Flooding a computer resource with more requests than it can handle. This causes the resource to crash thereby denying access of service to authorized users.

Examples include

attempts to "flood" a network, thereby preventing legitimate network traffic

attempts to disrupt connections between two machines, thereby preventing access to a service

attempts to prevent a particular individual from accessing a service

attempts to disrupt service to a specific system or person

Understanding color management
No device in a publishing system is capable of reproducing the full range of colors viewable to the human eye. Each device operates within a specific color space which can produce a certain range, or gamut, of colors.

Color model determines the relationship between values, and the color space define the absolute meaning of those values as colors. Some color models have a fixed color space (such as Lab) because they relate directly to the way humans perceive color. These models are described as being device-independent. Other color models (RGB, HSL, HSB, CMYK, and so forth) can have many different color spaces. Because these models vary with each associated color space or device, they are described as being device-dependent.

Because of these varying color spaces, colors can shift in appearance as you transfer documents between different devices. Color variations can result from differences in image sources (scanners and software produce art using different color spaces); brands of computer monitors; the way software applications define color; print media (newsprint paper reproduces a smaller gamut than magazine-quality paper); and other natural variations, such as manufacturing differences in monitors or monitor age.

What is a color management system?

Color-matching problems result from various devices and software using different color spaces. One solution is to have a system that interprets and translates color accurately between devices. A color management system (CMS) compares the color space in which color was created to the color space in which the same color will be output,and makes the necessary adjustments to represent the color as consistently as possible among different devices.

A color management system translates colors with the help of color profiles. A profile is a mathematical description of a device's color space. For example, a scanner profile tells a color management system how your scanner “sees” colors. Adobe applications use ICC profiles, a format defined by the International Color Consortium (ICC) as a cross-platform standard.

Because no single color-translation method is ideal for all types of graphics, a color management system provide a choice of rendering intents, or translation methods, so that you can apply a method appropriate to a particular graphical element. For example, a color translation method that preserves correct relationships among colors in a wildlife photograph may alter the colors in a logo containing flat tints of color.

Note: Don't confuse color management with color correction. A color management system won't correct an image that was saved with tonal or color balance problems. It provides an environment where you can evaluate images reliably in the context of your final output.

Do you need color management?

Without a color management system, your color specifications are device-dependent. You might not need color management if your production process is tightly controlled for one medium only. For example, you or your prepare service provider can tailor CMYK images and specify color values for a known, specific set of printing conditions.

The value of color management increases when you have more variables in your production process. Color management is recommended if you anticipate reusing color graphics for print and online media, using various kinds of devices within a single medium (such as different printing presses), or if you manage multiple workstations.

You will benefit from a color management system if you need to accomplish any of the following:

Get predictable and consistent color output on multiple output devices including color separations, your desktop printer, and your monitor. Color management is especially useful for adjusting color for devices with a relatively limited gamut, such as a four-color process printing press.
Accurately soft-proof (preview) a color document on your monitor by making it simulate a specific output device. (Soft-proofing is subject to the limitations of monitor display, such as room lighting conditions.)
Accurately evaluate and consistently incorporate color graphics from many different sources if they also use color management, and even in some cases if they don't.
Send color documents to different output devices and media without having to manually adjust colors in documents or original graphics. This is valuable when creating images that will eventually be used both in print and online.
Print color correctly to an unknown color output device; for example, you could store a document online for consistently reproducible on-demand color printing anywhere in the world.

Creating a viewing environment for color management

Your work environment influences how you see color on your monitor and on printed output. For best results, control the colors and light in your work environment by doing the following:

View your documents in an environment that provides a consistent light level and color temperature. For example, the color characteristics of sunlight change throughout the day and alter the way colors appear on your screen, so keep shades closed or work in a windowless room. To eliminate the blue-green cast from fluorescent lighting, you can install D50 (5000˚ Kelvin) lighting. You can also view printed documents using a D50 lightbox.
View your document in a room with neutral-colored walls and ceiling. A room's color can affect the perception of both monitor color and printed color. The best color for a viewing room is polychromatic gray. Also, the color of your clothing reflecting off the glass of your monitor may affect the appearance of colors on-screen.
Remove colorful background patterns on your monitor desktop. Busy or bright patterns surrounding a document interfere with accurate color perception. Set your desktop to display neutral grays only.
View document proofs in the real-world conditions under which your audience will see the final piece. For example, you might want to see how a house wares catalog looks under the incandescent light bulbs used in homes, or view an office furniture catalog under the fluorescent lighting used in offices. However, always make final color judgments under the lighting conditions specified by the legal requirements for contract proofs in your country.

Cool colors

Cool colors are based on blues, greens, pinks, purples, blue-greens, magentas, and blue-reds. Cool colors tend to be soothing, calming colors and can be used in large amounts.

Neutral Colors

Neutral Colors include white, black, gray and colors that contain a large amount of gray. Neutral colors are great for back-grounds and for enhancing the effect of warm colors.

Multi-color

Multi-colored sites have the lowest visitation time, as a combination of warm and cool colors confuses the user. It will often make the site seem cluttered and ambiguous. So it is best to choose a couple of colors and stick to them.

Color Harmony

Too much color can be disturbing and chaotic, whereas too little can be boring. It is best to use a balance. So it's best to Use only a few different colors on a page. Avoid using an excessive amount of colors, blend and use warm and cool colors.

Computer Color Display

Computer monitors display colors using different amounts of red, green, and blue, these are called RGB color. This is an additive form of color, because red, green, and blue light in equal amounts "add" up to white light. All other colors are formed on screen by mixing the amounts of the RGB color. Since RGB color is completely different from the way colors are set in print, it has to be used differently.

Web Color

A common problem on the web is that color often does not reproduce correctly in Websites. The reason is related to bit-depth, a color may be beyond the range of the viewing display setting. Alternative colors may be reproduced, or color shifting may happen. Even if a visitor's system is capable of displaying a color, technical features like hardware age to Gamma control may cause color distortion. Such problems not only cause aesthetic problems but ay also result in visitor retention issues. Given today's technology, color management in the Web can be taxing. Browser-safe palette The browser-safe palette of 216 colors gives consistent and conventional results across the Mac OS, UNIX, and Windows platforms. Even though computers today can render millions of colors, you should use browser-safe palette if you think your website will be viewed from a 256 color computer, which can be the general case. It'll be more effective if you limit the color palette to 2 or 3 major colors with shade variations, as it is visually more appealing. Plus limited colors means smaller file sizes and faster loading.

Text Colors

Be exceptionally careful when setting text and background colors, Readability must be preserved at all costs. If the text is light colored then the background has to be dark and vice a versa. White and black always make a good combination, and red and blue are useful for highlighting. Try to avoid using the combination of black as a back ground with warm color text, as it might be great clarity wise but has a tendency to make visitors nauseous.

When dealing with international visitors, it's easy to get messed up by the meaning of color.

Blue represents peace, tranquility, calm, stability, Harmony, unity, trust, confidence. In China, blue is associated with immortality. In Colombia, blue is associated with soap. In India blue is the color of Krishna in the Middle East blue is a protective color.

Black represents power, sophistication, formality, elegance, anonymity, unhappiness wealth, mystery, fear, evil also. In USA black is for mourning.

Green represents nature, health, good luck, renewal, youth, vigor, spring, generosity, fertility, jealousy. In India green is the color of Islam. In Ireland green has religious significance (Catholic).In some tropical countries green is associated with danger.

Orange represents energy, balance, warmth, enthusiasm, vibrancy, flamboyancy.

In Ireland orange has religious significance (Protestant). Purple represents royalty, spirituality, nobility, ceremony, mystery, transformation, wisdom, enlightenment.

Red represents love, danger, desire, speed, strength, violence, anger, and blood. In China red symbolizes celebration and luck, used in many cultural ceremonies that range from funerals to weddings. In India red is the color of purity (used in wedding outfits).

White represents purity, simplicity, cleanliness, peace, humility, innocence youth, birth, good, and marriage. In Japan, white carnations signify death. In eastern cultures white symbolizes coldness and sterility. In USA it signifies virginity.

Yellow represents joy, happiness, optimism, idealism, imagination, hope, sunshine, and cowardliness. In Asia yellow is sacred, and imperial.

Colors are a powerful tool, it's the first! The first impression of your site, so keep in mind the above points when deciding on the color scheme of your site.
